Installing the 22bet app on Android

Google Play does not carry the app, so 22bet hands out the APK itself from the mobile section of its site. That means one extra Android permission and some care about where the file came from. Download it from the operator's own mobile page and nowhere else.

No official minimum Android version is published for the Kenyan APK, which is unhelpful if you are on an older handset. There is no way around that except installing it and seeing whether it opens.

1. Open the site in Chrome on your phone and find the mobile applications section.
2. Tap the Android download and let the APK finish. The file size is not published, so there is no figure to check it against.
3. Allow installs from unknown sources for Chrome when Android asks. On most phones that sits under Settings, Apps, special access.
4. Open the downloaded file, accept the install, wait for the icon.
5. Sign in with the phone number or email you used at registration. Your account number was issued by the system at signup, so it stays the same in the app.
6. Switch the unknown sources permission back off once the install is done.

The iPhone version

On iOS the app comes from the Kenyan App Store listing and needs iOS 14.0 or above. If your phone is stuck below that, nothing gets you the app, and the mobile site in Safari is the fallback. Same platform behind it, SSL protected, same line: 30 and more markets on the bigger fixtures, and by affiliate counts more than 6,400 competitions. Affiliate sources also put the Kenyan launch at 2017, though the operator itself does not state a year.

22bet app requirements and cashier limits

These are the numbers worth knowing before you install anything. Several of them move, especially the M-Pesa minimum, so treat the cashier inside your own account as the final word.

The gap between KES 10 and KES 150 confuses people. KES 150 is the deposit that unlocks the sports welcome offer. The smaller figure comes from affiliate material, and the working minimum on any given day lives in the cashier.

Depositing and cashing out from the app

M-Pesa is what almost everyone uses, and here the app is genuinely annoying. The paybill number is not printed in the platform's own text. One brand guide gives one number, another guide on the same domain gives a different one, and directories repeat the first. I will not choose for you, because money sent to a stranger's paybill does not come back. Airtel Money works, with a minimum of KSh 112 and crediting that can take 15 to 30 minutes. If your balance has not moved after half an hour, that is the moment to contact support, not after five minutes. Visa and MasterCard are also accepted.

Withdrawals start at about KES 225 and land between 15 minutes and 24 hours. 22bet charges no commission on the way out, but Safaricom and Airtel apply their usual tariffs, so what reaches your phone is slightly under what you requested. M-Pesa itself caps you at KES 250,000 per transfer and KES 500,000 per day.

Login, verification and the one account rule

Logging in from the app runs the same checks as the site: CAPTCHA, 2FA, and a limit on failed attempts. A VPN is a stated reason for refusing access, so turn it off before you decide you have been locked out. Password resets go by email or by phone, and you can also log in by SMS or through a social network. Changing your number is done in the profile and confirmed by code. More on the login page.

Verification asks for a passport, national ID or driving licence, proof of address no older than three months, and a screenshot of the payment method you use. Turnaround is 24 hours, stretching to 72 if they come back for extra documents. Get it done before your first withdrawal rather than while you are waiting on one.

One account per person, household, IP address, device and payment method. Sharing a phone with a relative who also bets is a real way to get both accounts frozen. And if you have just signed up, the email confirmation link is valid for 72 hours.
